Family Connections@Byers: Striving Towards Wellness
Thursday, November 18th from 6:30 to 8:00 pm via Zoom
Family Connections@Byers is a great way for parents and guardians to engage and connect at our school.
Join us for our next Byers Family Connections event with guest speaker Dr. Sheryl Ziegler. Together we will navigate teen mental health with Denver psychologist, author and mom of three (spanning grades from elementary-high school). A regular contributor to national and local news on topics related to parenting and mental health, Dr. Ziegler will discuss what Colorado has been experiencing in relation to depression, anxiety, and suicide and what parents can do to support their children. Come connect with other Byers families while building your teen mental health toolbox.
Following Dr. Ziegler’s presentation, we’ll break into parent/family groups to further connect, discuss, and support one another. Based on interest already expressed from our Byers families, we hope to offer groups such as New to Byers, Spanish Speaking Families, Students with Learning Differences, Arabic Speaking Families and more!
We are looking for parents/guardians to help facilitate these groups. If you are interested in learning more and/or available to help us lead a Family Connections group, please reach out to Byers parent Magda Renteria at mm.renteria19@gmail.com. We will offer additional groups based on families’ interests and our ability to secure parent facilitators to lead them.

If you order in person, you MUST tell the cashier you are with DSST Byers before paying.
If you order in App or online you MUST add the ‘Fundraiser’ menu item to the basket. The fundraiser menu item is $0 but will make sure 33% of your purchase is donated goes to Byers.
Advanced ordering is not available.
Growing Together @Byers (GT@B) Annual Fund
Our Growing Together @ Byers Campaign (GT@B) is rolling along and we are tenaciously reaching for our goal.
We’ve had great success this past week, raising an additional $10,268.56, for a total of $53,525.56 in donations to date. We are about 43% participation of the way to our goal of raising $125,000 again this year. Our goal is 100% participation of our Byers families, however, only 11% of families have donated so far.
Consider this, if every family contributed just $10 per month we would easily meet our goal. That’s the cost of less than one Starbucks drink a week to make sure all Byers students continue to have access to robust and varied extracurricular activities, athletics, student government, and school wide events. Weekly volunteer needed for our on-site Covid testing
DSST Byers needs 1 to 2 volunteers to come in every Wednesday from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM to help with Middle & High School Covid-19 testing. Volunteers must be fully vaccinated and masked to participate. To volunteer, please click on THIS LINK. Thanks for helping Byers stay healthy and safe!

Message from DSST Public Schools regarding this Friday 19th Classes
Dear DSST Families,
You may have received an email from Denver Public Schools yesterday alerting you that the district will have a wellness day Friday, Nov. 19, so there will be no school that day. Because DSST already had a wellness day last week, and we have high school final exams. DSST will be in school. Again, DSST does have school on Friday, Nov. 19. Your child is expected to be in school that day.
It is important that your child is in school that day to finish the trimester strong! This is our last day of school before the Thanksgiving break, and final exams and testing will be wrapping up on Friday. High school students will be taking their math exams that day, so it is crucial that they be in school.
We apologize for any confusion. As a reminder, DSST follows our own calendar, which differs from DPS’ occasionally. You can view the calendar for the 2021-22 school year here.
